The process of Plan Scope Management is making a plan that explains how the project and product scope will be outlined, checked, and managed. The scope management plan is a part of the project or program management plan. It explains how the scope will be outlined, built, tracked, managed, and checked. The first step in making the scope management plan and the project scope is to look at the information in the project charter, the most recent approved subsidiary plans of the project management plan, the historical information in the organizational process assets, and any other factors that are important to the business.

There is a goal, a high-level description, assumptions, constraints, and high-level requirements that the project is supposed to meet in the project charter.

Project Management Plan

Some of the parts of a project management plan are, but are not limited to:

  • Plan for quality control. How the company’s quality strategy, methods, and standards are used on the project can affect how the project and product scope are managed.
  • A description of the project life cycle. It is the project life cycle that describes the steps that a project goes through from the beginning to the end.
  • Approach to development. It depends on the development technique whether a hybrid, adaptive, agile, or waterfall development method will be used.

Requirements Management Plan

As part of the project management plan, the requirements management plan lays out how the needs of the project and the product will be studied, written down, and handled. A business research plan is another name for it in some places. Some parts of the needs management plan are the following, but they are not limited to them:

  • The planning, tracking, and reporting of actions related to requirements;
  • configuration management tasks like deciding how to make changes, how to look at their effects, how to track them, and how to report them, as well as the permission levels needed to make these changes.
  • Requirements prioritization process;
  • Metrics that will be used and why they will be used; and
  • Structure for traceability that matches the characteristics of the requirements listed on the traceability matrix.
