what is admixture in construction

Admixtures may be defined as materials that are added in small quantities either to factory-made cements, or, more commonly, to mortars or concretes during mixing, in order to modify one or more of their properties or performance characteristics in the fresh wet and/or hardened state. Concrete admixtures are listed in BS EN 934–2: 2009 with their associated performance requirements.
