scatter plot

Scatter plot is a plot of pairs of data on an x and y axis that illustrates graphically the relationship between two variables. Scatter plots (or scatter diagrams) are a key tool in analyzing the relationship between two variables. Using this graphical technique you can determine the extent to which one variable seems “to follow” another. (If one increases, does the other increase?) This does not imply cause and effect—because two variables are correlated or follow one another does not necessarily mean that one is causing the other to shift. To determine that answer will require the hypothesis testing techniques of Q3, experimental design studies. Additionally in Q3, statistical calculations will be illustrated to determine numerically the amount of correlation between two variables.
